How to Make Skittle Vodka

Some of you will undoubtedly make homophobic slurs because I’m offering up my method of making skittle vodka, but let me tell you something, BITCHES LOVE SKITTLE VODKA. Plus, if you don’t like how skittles taste, you have a brain disorder. This stuff turns out great and looks pretty cool, too. Better yet, it’s easy enough to make that even kitchen-retarded me can do it.

Raw Materials:

You’re going to need a couple things. The main ingredents of skittle vodka are rather obvious (I’d hope), but apart from the skittles and the vodka, you’re going to need a funnel and coffee filters. Both are relatively cheap, so it’s not a huge burden. I think I spent under a dollar for the funnel. You also need empty water bottles. The glass bottles I put the finished product in are 200mL bottles of Paramount Vodka. I bought them because they were glass and I’m enough of a loser to care about presentation (I’m even OCD enough that I peeled off the labels). Water bottles work just fine, though.

The Method:

First, it’s necessary to divide the skittles into their individual colors. I forgot to take a picture of this, but I do it as unscientifically as possible: I took a coffee filter and put in enough skittles that the bottom of the filter was totally covered. Probably about 40-50 skittles per color. The first time I did this, I bought a 14 oz bag and just used every skittle. I had to buy a bigger bag this time, so I just kind of guessed. The bottles I used (200mL) are roughly 7 oz of vodka each, so keep that in mind. If you want to make bigger batches than that, you’ll need more skittles.

After dividing the skittles and putting them into empty water bottles, I poured the vodka into each one (as seen in the first picture). Once I filled all the bottles, I shook them to help start dissolving the skittles into the vodka. It’s best to let them sit overnight, but if you are really jonesing skittle vodka now, you could blend it in blender. I think it works better if you let them dissolve naturally, though.

Once the skittles have completely dissolved, you need to filter them so you won’t be drinking white gunk. At this point, you can always taste it to see if you need to put in more skittles. Depending on the proof/quantity/quality, you may need to use more than I did. To filter the mix, put the coffee filters into the funnel (it’s usually best to put in a couple filters at a time; I used three) and dump the mix through. As you can see in the fourth picture, there is a lot of gunk left behind. If you’re making a big batch, you may need to filter twice to get all the gunk out.

Once you’ve filtered all of the vodka, it’s best to chill them in the freezer. Although it doesn’t taste bad warm, the flavor definitely seems to improve once it’s cooled.

How to Drink it:

Honestly, it tastes good enough to drink straight, but if you want to mix it, I recommend Sprite or Coke. Sprite works remarkably well with the lemon and lime flavors (not surprisingly). Coke is pretty solid with all the flavors, too. If you use an assload of skittles and the flavor is really strong, Tonic will work just fine.

The stuff is pretty sugary, so I wouldn’t recommend drinking a ton of it at once unless you want to wake up feeling like you took a sledge to the face.
